"We are Nature Defending Itself": A reading group
This is a public reading group, meeting on a semi-regular, ad-hoc basis. It is very low key. Recommended reading takes 10 minutes, but each session also starts off with a small summary, so no need to read anything in advance if that's too much!
We will discuss "We are nature defending itself" by Isabelle Fremeaux and Jay Jordan. It's a collection of stories about the ZAD - an autonomous zone in France.
There will be two sessions on this book, one on 12/11, one on 27/11. Plan 1.5hrs per session. Afterwards we may grab a Späti drink if people will be keen.
During the first session we will discuss the following themes (recommended sections in parentheses)
- Building sustainable communities encompassing a wide range of perspectives ("A discipline of attention", pages 62-68 and "Compos(t)ing together", pages 78-83)
- Escaping a gentrifying city to live in alignment with your principles ("Departure Lounge" + Desertion", pages 35-44)
