Innerhalb weniger Tage zu Beginn des März wurden drei deutsche zivile Rettungsschiffe – die Sea-Watch 5, die Sea-Eye 4 und die Humanity 1 – unter fadenscheinigen Vorwänden von den italienischen Behörden festgesetzt. Die Sea-Eye 4 wurde darüber hinaus als erstes Rettungsschiff für 60 Tage festgesetzt. Die gezielte Blockade eines zivilen Rettungsschiffs über einen derart langen Zeitraum kennzeichnet eine alarmierende Eskalation in der systematischen Behinderung der Seenotrettung. Mit den Festsetzungen der Sea-Eye 4 und der Sea-Watch werden zwei lebensrettende Schiffe für insgesamt 80 Tage aktiv vom Mittelmeer ferngehalten. Die Tatsache, dass das ein Richter am Zivilgericht in Crotone die vorläufige Aufhebung der Fesetzung der Humanity 1 für 20 Tage am Montagabend mit der "offenkundigen Unrechtmäßigkeit der erlassenen Verordnung" begründet hat, offenbart erneut die schockierende Unrechtmäßigkeit der Festsetzung. Festsetzungen ziviler Rettungsschiffe sind politisch motiviert und zielen darauf ab, Rettungsorganisationen an ihrer lebensrettenden Arbeit zu hindern und zu verhindern, dass Menschen auf der Flucht Schutz in Europa finden können.
Seit den drei Festsetzungen sind mindestens 100 Menschen bei dem Versuch, das Mittelmeer zu überqueren, ertrunken. Menschen, die vielleicht hätten gerettet werden können, wenn die Schiffe nicht blockiert gewesen wären.

Within a few days at the beginning of March, three German civil rescue ships - the Sea-Watch 5, the Sea-Eye 4 and the Humanity 1 - were detained by the Italian authorities on flimsy grounds; the Sea-Eye 4 was also the first rescue ship to be detained for 60 days. The targeted blockade of a civil rescue ship over such a long period of time marks an alarming escalation in the systematic obstruction of sea rescue operations. With the detentions of the Sea-Eye 4 and the Sea-Watch 5, two life-saving ships are being actively kept away from the Mediterranean for a total of 80 days. The fact that a judge at the civil court in Crotone justified the preliminary lifting of the detention of the Humanity 1 for 20 days on Monday evening with the "apparent injustice of the measure issued" once again reveals the shocking illegitimacy of the detention. Detentions of civil rescue ships are politically motivated and aim to prevent rescue organizations from doing their life-saving work and to prevent people on the move from seeking a place of safety in Europe.
