On Thursday 26.06.2025, at 12:30 Turmstr. 91, a Palestinian refugee who’s been in pre-trial detention for 4 months will be on trial! He is facing multiple years in prison for allegedly throwing fireworks at a cop late 2023. The office of General State Attorney (highest level in the state) is prosecuting him in what can only be seen as a specific targeting of this refugee for his Palestine solidarity work.
Let us support him and protest against Germany’s racist prosecution of Palestinians!
On 26 February 2025 in Berlin, the home of a Palestinian refugee and activist was raided and searched – he was arrested and held in prison ever since. The accusations? Incidents from October 2023! Namely throwing of a firework at a police officer, insulting a police officer and possession of fireworks.
His case is conducted by the Office of the “Public Prosecutor General”, which makes the political dimension and aim of the proceedings obvious: extreme punishment for Palestinian activists and further branding of Palestine solidarity in Germany as dangerous and delegitimate. Our friend faces several years in prison.
Two things must be noted in this case:
The Office of the “Public Prosecutor General” is the highest prosecutive body in the state, and usually handles highly political and state-security significant cases. It is known to be a political body that has vested interest in “deterrance”. In other words, it seeks maximum punishment.
The prosecution of this Palestinian refugee is an extreme case of repression against Palestine solidarity in general, and Palestinian refugees in particular. To crush and deter all dissent against German complicity in the genocide – expressed clearly in the use of pre-trial detention and the involvement of the Office of “Public Prosecutor General”.
Today, countless war criminals walk freely in Berlin. Monsters who massacred Palestinians in Gaza or supported the genocide politically, logistically, or diplomatically. None of them is standing before a court, none of them is prosecuted, none of them is in German jails. Yet, a Palestinian refugee and activist is facing the brunt of the German legal system. This perversity is typically German: those who commit genocide roam free, those fighting it face the state.
The attempt to isolate him from family, friends and the political community is intended to break his spirit and deter the rest of the movement. But we will never let them! Resistance to oppression is our right and duty.
Solidarity with our friend in custody! Freedom for Palestine – Democracy for Germany!
