"After the anarchist and publisher of the anarchist "Ziegelbrenner" (Brick Burner) Ret Marut, a member of the first Bavarian Soviet Republic in Munich in April 1919, was sent back to Munich by the bloodthirsty Freikorps soldiers of the SPD's "bloodhound" Noske following his suppression of the Soviets, he was one of the few who managed to disappear without a trace. Around 1924, he resurfaced in Mexico via London as a social revolutionary author under the pseudonym 
B. Traven, whose true identity was unknown at the time.

Around 1974, the journalist Will Wyat were able to discover that Traven was indeed Marut and was actually named the syndicalist Otto Feige.

His books became worldwide bestsellers. One of them is called "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre."

Around 1925 Fred Dobbs hires a building contractor. After two weeks of hard work, the contractor fails to show up to pay his wages. Together with a fellow worker, Fred robs his boss. A tale of a gold vein lures him and two other adventurers into the wilderness. But after the initial euphoria, greed, mistrust, and hostility begin to drive the companions apart."
